Corn Removal Treatment

Corns are hardened areas of skin caused by friction and constant pressure. They often form on the metatarsal area or around the nails, and if left untreated, can become increasingly painful and difficult to manage.

Why addressing corns is important?

Corns are hard areas of dead skin that develop in deeper layers of the foot, often causing significant discomfort or pain. They are typically caused by friction and constant pressure and may appear on the metatarsal area, around the nail, or under the nail plate.

At Infinity Foot Clinic, we provide professional corn removal using safe and effective methods tailored to the condition. Regular visits help prevent corns from worsening and allow for early intervention with conservative treatments. In more persistent or older cases, removal may require slightly more invasive methods to ensure complete relief and restore comfort.

Preventive care, including comfortable footwear, orthopaedic insoles, and supportive devices, is important to reduce pressure and minimize recurrence.

How to recognize the ingrown toenail in a child ?

The ingrown toenail in a child looks the same as in adults. The first symptom is the redness around the nail. This is worth noticing that most little children are not able to tell us that they feel discomfort due to the ingrown toenail. Therefore, it is parents who should control the condition of their child’s growing nails. It is advisable to do it before the bath as the skin is not yet too much softened and it is easy to notice such problem.

Corn is a type of callus which is formed due to increased pressure or friction. In this place the skin produces excessive epidermal cells to protect against detrimental mechanical factors. If callus is not properly removed, the dead cells build up deep into the skin and form so called core of the corn. The corn often becomes painful when it reaches live and nerved layers of the skin. This is a yellowish change with a little bit darker centre.

The corn is most often located on the following part of the foot:
– plantar
– foot arch
– heel
– toes and areas between the toes

Verrucas:
Viral warts contrary to the corns are not caused by increased pressure or friction. They are caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). There are two types of this virus affecting our feet:
– HPV1 is responsible for formation of big and deep verrucas.
– HPV2 causes so called viral mosaic warts which are shallower, but more scattered.
This infection is spread by direct skin-to skin contact. The most commonly the infection might be contracted in the swimming pool i.e. public venues where people usually walk bare-foot. This also concerns hotel rooms, wearing borrowed shoes which were previously worn by HPV infected person. The virus can dwell in the skin even for a few months and then activate in the condition of immune system decline, illness and stress.

Can ingrown toenail drain pus ?

Yes, the ingrown toe can become strongly inflammated and drain pus. Typically, this condition develops when the problem is noticed too late. Such problem might also arise due to improper foot care straight after some treatment procedures e.g. surgical nail removal. If your toenail drains pus it is necessary to see the doctor immediately in order to prevent infection spread through the whole organism.
